Quito, 8 de julio de 2024.- Tener la libertad de elegir cómo se quiere pagar en el punto de venta es cada vez más importante para la viabilidad de los comercios. En esta línea el 50% de la población bancarizada ecuatoriana preferiría realizar su pago por un medio electrónico si pudiera elegir, sin embargo, el 57% de este grupo también asegura que no puede elegir su medio de pago favorito al momento de una transacción en un comercio. Esto contrasta con lo que sucede en Reino Unido, Italia y España, donde concretamente el 74%, el 60% y el 57% de los consumidores por este orden, manifiestan que pueden ejercer la elección del medio de pago en el punto de venta.
Según el Informe Digitalización de los pagos en el punto de venta de Minsait Payments, la falta de opciones para elegir diferentes métodos de pago en los establecimientos provoca que el efectivo se siga priorizando en muchas ocasiones. Sin tener nada que ver con el equipamiento o la decisión del consumidor, muchos comercios optan por no aceptar pagos digitales, provocando que el comprador tenga que usar el efectivo. Es más, en el 46% de los casos, la desconfianza del punto de venta con el cobro digital es una de las principales causas para que los usuarios usen el efectivo en los comercios.
Para los consumidores insatisfechos por no poder elegir el medio de pago de preferencia en tiendas y establecimientos, hay tres dificultades que impiden dicha elección: el hecho de que el medio de pago de su preferencia no sea aceptado por el punto de venta; los errores técnicos en el momento del pago; y el establecimiento de condiciones adicionales tales como comisiones o precios diferenciados por parte del comercio.
Con relación a lo que podría facilitar que los comercios consoliden sus procesos de digitalización, el Informe de Minsait Payments asegura que cerca de la mitad de los expertos que han participado en el estudio considera los smartphones como una herramienta para que los puntos de venta digitalicen sus cobros y pagos, especialmente en aquellos aún desatendidos (long-tail), postulándose como uno de los mejores aliados para ampliar la inclusión financiera y la digitalización del punto de venta, especialmente en países emergentes.
En Latinoamérica y específicamente en Ecuador aún existe un reto importante de digitalización del cobro en autónomos y pequeñas empresas, lo que subraya la necesidad de continuar avanzando en esta área para asegurar que todos los comerciantes puedan beneficiarse de las ventajas de la digitalización.
En este sentido, la tecnología softPOS, que permite convertir un smartphone o una tablet en un terminal punto de venta (POS) sin necesidad de hardware adicional, es una solución prometedora. Esta propuesta permite aceptar pagos con tarjeta a través de una aplicación que utiliza la tecnología NFC del dispositivo móvil, eliminando la necesidad de adquirir terminales físicos costosos y proporcionando una mayor flexibilidad para los comerciantes.
La supervivencia del efectivo
Según el Informe, la prevalencia del efectivo responde a una diversidad de motivos. Pese al avance de la digitalización en los puntos de venta y la universalización de las tarjetas, tanto físicas como virtuales, sigue habiendo puntos no digitalizados, en los que aún hoy solo se acepta dinero en efectivo. A nivel institucional se considera esencial su existencia y uso, para que siempre se mantenga como un medio de pago tangible para la población, ya que sigue siendo esencial para muchas empresas y hogares que se encuentran en situación de exclusión financiera o incluso digital. Además, el efectivo sigue siendo el medio de pago que habilita la economía informal, que alcanza un tamaño considerable en Ecuador donde el 68% de las transacciones se realizan con este método de pago.
El Informe sectorial Digitalización de los pagos en el punto de venta de Minsait Payments forma parte del estudio que la compañía presenta todos los años sobre Tendencias en Medios de Pago, y que está elaborado en colaboración con Analistas Financieros Internacionales (AFI). Este documento recoge las opiniones de más de 4.800 personas internautas bancarizadas de España, Italia, Portugal, Reino Unido y Latinoamérica (Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, México, Perú y República Dominicana).
