Más de 57.700 migrantes cruzaron el Darién en octubre, una cifra histórica

La peligrosa selva del Darién, la frontera natural entre Colombia y Panam&aacute;, fue cruzada en octubre pasado por 59.773 migrantes irregulares en tránsito hacia EE.UU., una cifra mensual sin precedentes, indicaron datos del Servicio Nacional de Migración (SNM) panameño.

Entre enero y octubre,¿ llegaron a Panam&aacute; en total 211.355 viajeros irregulares, un número sin parangón, de los cuales el 70,1 % o 148.285 eran venezolanos, la nacionalidad que impulsó este año la ola migratoria hacia Estados Unidos.

Las autoridades panameñas han asegurado que el flujo de venezolanos se redujo «drásticamente» luego de que el pasado 12 de octubre el Gobierno estadounidense anunció que todo nacional de Venezuela que entre a EE.UU. habiendo cruzado de manera irregular la frontera de México y de Panam&aacute; será expulsado a territorio mexicano.

Además, los expulsados serán excluidos del programa mediante el cual Estados Unidos dará estatus legal por dos años a 24.000 venezolanos que lleguen en avión y con patrocinadores.

El Darién, un trayecto de 266 kilómetros, es utilizado desde hace décadas como vía irregular por personas procedentes de todo el mundo que viajan hacia Estados Unidos , en un negocio ilegal que involucra a grupos del crimen organizado y que no está exento de peligros como morir a manos de los criminales o por los rigores de la naturaleza.

Panam&aacute; acoge a los viajeros en estaciones de recepción migratoria (ERM) situadas en sus fronteras con Colombia y Costa Rica, les toman datos biométricos y les ofrecen servicios médicos y alimentación, en un operativo que ha consumido al menos 50 millones de dólares desde el 2020 según los datos oficiales.

UN 15 % DE LOS MIGRANTES IRREGULARES SON MENORES DE EDAD En esta ola migratoria hay familias enteras con niños e incluso bebés. Según los datos panameños difundidos este lunes, el 15,3 % o 32.488 migrantes irregulares del total de más 211.000 que cruzaron la selva este año eran menores de edad.

Esa proporción sube al 18,2 % en el caso del flujo migratorio de octubre pasado, cuando los menores que llegaron a las ERM sumaron 10.910.

Este año además se ha triplicado el número de menores y adolescentes no acompañados y separados. Hasta el 22 de septiembre se contabilizaban 618 frente a los 205 de todo el año anterior, agregó la funcionaria del ente de las Naciones Unidas.

LAS OTRAS NACIONALIDADES QUE CRUZAN LA SELVA As&iacute; como «el flujo de venezolanos ha disminuido considerablemente (â¦) hay otras nacionalidades que estamos viendo que están aumentando, por ejemplo, Hait&iacute; y Ecuador, y estamos muy pendientes de eso» , afirmó el presidente de Panam&aacute;, Laurentino Cortizo, el pasado 3 de noviembre.

De acuerdo con los datos de la oficina de Migración panameña, la segunda nacionalidad que más cruzado el Darién este año son los ecuatorianos, 15.185 o el 7,1 %, seguido de los haitianos (5,8 %); cubanos (2,36 %), colombianos (2,2 %) e indios (1,19 %).

En octubre pasado se registró un alza importante en el número de ecuatorianos, que sumaron 8.487, la cifra más alta del año y lejos de los 2.594 de septiembre, los 1.581 de agosto y los 883 de julio.

El resto de migrantes irregulares procedieron de una treintena de países, especialmente africanos y asiáticos.

Muchos de los venezolanos y haitianos proceden de segundos o terceros países, como Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Chile o Brasil, en los que ya se habían establecido o al menos lo habían intentando. EFE
